yoga

While the girls were home for graduation, Carissa and Kathryn decided to do some yoga. All I've got to say is... that's not natural!!!

graduation

I have been remiss in not updating you on graduation.... so sorry! Above is a picture of KJ and her friend Jessie... sad that she is leaving because Jessie doesn't graduate until next year.

Kathryn with dad and mom...

These were taken at Baccalaureate. (I learned how to spell that finally, this year!) Kathryn was one of the speakers and I was on the committee to put it all together. She and her friend Sarah also designed the program. It was awesome!

Here are my three beautiful girls. We had a wonderful weekend together with the grandparents... It was just too short!

heat wave

Well, we're definitely havin' a heat wave! At 9 pm. tonight it was still 99 degrees! I believe the high today was 107. That is the second day this month that we have broken a record for the high. I was going to finish the drip system today, but.... I don't think so! Hopefully it will cool off tomorrow.

Garden update

Well... we survived the graduation activities at the end of May. I can hardly believe that Kathryn is done with school. We had a fun time though.

Since Suzi updated on their garden, I thought I should, too. We were excited this weekend to have our first little harvest. We had broccoli, one little yellow squash, and our lettuce in a chef salad.

We had a blowout in the hose in the back yard! So, we are very motivated to get the drip system installed. We made good headway on it tonight. Thank the Lord, it rained night before last. I was about to send Jack out in the yard to do a rain dance!!!

Hope you enjoy the photos...This is one of our broccoli plants.

Jack the snake catcher

I have been so busy with graduation stuff that I have sorely neglected my blog. But I had to write about this.

We heard Lowrider barking alot in the back yard this evening and discovered that he had cornered a 3 foot bull snake. We put him in the house and Jack corralled the snake with a rake and a box. Then he took it out to the alley and released it. I hope it doesn't crawl back into the yard to join us while we pull weeds!

The interesting thing to me was that, when threatened, it stood up some and then made a hissing sound that sounded somewhat like a rattle.

All in all it was a pretty cool event!

Garage Sale Pain

Loeta and I went through a lot of work to make about $100 on our garage sale. If anyone suggests doing a garage sale again, I'll say, "No way! Do you think I'm crazy enough to do that again?" I might even claim temporary insanity and leave the country for a while.

At least we got rid of some stuff, and we're giving away the rest. I may be able to park two cars in the garage again and be able to easily reach anything! It is exciting to get rid of a lot of stuff we've accumulated over our married life.

We've carried boxes of things Suzanne and Carissa left for us to store. They don't always appreciate our efforts since they now have to deal with stuff they don't want either.

Leatherheads

Jack and I went to see Leatherheads last night here at our little theater. I believe it is one of the best movies we have ever seen. I think George Clooney is so hilarious! There is some bad language... but overall a great flick. It is about the beginnings of professional football in the 1920's. Try to go see it if you can... you will spend the evening laughing! Hope your week is great!

backyard garden

Well... the big news of the weekend is the vegetable garden. We've gotten everything done except putting in some of the plants and the drip system (which Jack is studying on). Between Jack's strong back, my design abilities, and Lowrider's dedication to eat all the grub worms, it has been a very successful project! Of course we could barely move last night when we finally came in the house. (All three of us!!!) Above are before pictures. Jack had to take out three bushes that were mostly dead.

These are the after photos. We put newspaper down in the path areas to try to help with the weeds a little. The snowball bush looks like it survived the extreme pruning we put it through! Lowrider got a new little house that he loves.

Planted in the back, we now have ; onions, purple potatoes, garlic, radishes, carrots, okra, heirloom tomatoes, Brussels sprouts, eggplant, butternut squash, basil, rosemary, lavender and chives. I still plan to put out bell peppers, poblano peppers and soybeans. We are looking forward to good organic "eats" this summer!

We spent today working at the church this morning. (we had a work day) Then, we napped and laid around the rest of the day. It was too COLD to work in the yard! Tonight I did try my hand at making pecan pralines. They are presently under the "diner dome" on the bar! They turned out pretty well... maybe I used too much butter, if that is possible, but they are YUMMY!

I have been going through Philippians lately and I am fascinated by the verse in chapter 2:13 that says "for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose."

Today I had this thought: God is always faithful to lead us, but sometimes we are not faithful to follow. When we get off track, it is because of our choices... not His leading.

If you have any thoughts on this verse, comment me. I would love to hear them. Hope your weekend is great!

cake plate

I found this great cake plate at an antiques store here in town. Now my kitchen looks like an all-American diner with goodies under the dome!

birth of a blog

Well, I guess Jack and I have succumbed to peer pressure from our daughters and are setting up a blog, too. It has been so fun to keep up with their lives that we would join the trend an post our news. There will be more forthcoming....
